Three Sisters Condominiums
The firm Stan & Nick were members of partnered with New Haven’s Livable City Initiative to renovate and modernize a group of historic brick row houses saved from demolition by neighborhood preservationists. Built between 1897 and the early 1900s, these buildings—known as The Three Sisters—originally housed nurses from the former Grace-New Haven Hospital.
The team completed full exterior restoration and addressed extensive asbestos and mold remediation throughout. The team provided comprehensive design and construction oversight to create 12 subsidized condominiums, which now serve as part of New Haven’s rent-to-own housing program.

Responsibilities
Stan & Nick were assigned this project after schematic design and were responsible to produce the construction documents, provide bidding services, and provide construction administration services to project completion, during their tenure with Kenneth Boroson Architects.
One challenge the project presented was locating existing structural elements & bearing lines that were not immediately distinguishable due to the period in which the project was constructed. In response, Stan & Nick implemented investigative demolition to determine the existing bearing lines, refining the plans accordingly.
After hazmat removals all finishes were removed and vast areas of water and insect damage was found, resulting in over 90% of the wood framing to have to be replaced.
