St Basil’s Greek Orthodox
Church Addition

This new addition to the existing Greek Orthodox Church in New Haven was designed to create a fresh worship space while allowing for future renovations of the original building. Located prominently in front of the original church, the new structure introduces a welcoming, updated presence for the community.

During site preparation, soil testing revealed substandard conditions. To ensure stability, the 4,500-square-foot addition was built on treated timber piles driven deep into the ground for a secure foundation.

The design honors tradition while using modern, durable materials. The exterior features EIFS cladding, which mimics classic stucco but offers better insulation and weather resistance. The metal tile roof replicates the look of traditional clay tiles. A bell tower enhances the church’s iconic Greek Orthodox silhouette.

Inside, the space features a barrel-vaulted, telescoping ceiling that draws focus to the altar, creating an intimate atmosphere for worship.

Construction was completed in September 2017. The congregation is actively involved in finishing the interior, including hand-carved pews and the iconostasis wall—crafted in Greece.
