The Miles Elezar Hotchkiss House

The original Hotchkiss House was constructed around 1820 as the home for one of the founding members of the Westville neighborhood in New Haven, CT.  After being added onto during the mid-20th Century, the home had been used as both a private college dormitory and illegal rooming house before becoming abandoned and left in a state of advanced deterioration.

Local neighborhood preservationists purchased and assumed control of the property in 2007 when the property was condemned and slated to be demolished. As project architect for KBA, Nick managed the restoration design for the building which involved demolishing the addition and making the original house structurally sound.  Original architectural elements were painstakingly restored; and the home was made fully code compliant and accessible. 

The house, now known as The Ausin Street Inn, currently serves as a bed & breakfast and local art gallery; and is a regular stop along historic walking tours of the neighborhood.
