Jefferson Square Apartments

The Jefferson Square Apartments in downtown Waterbury, CT is an 8-story apartment building that housed a medical office on its first floor and day-care center at its ground floor.  Due to the recent vacancy of the bottom two floors, the building owner hired The Monroe Partnership to design the conversion of these floors to apartments, to make the entire building dedicated to residential use, as well as provide housing for healthcare workers from the adjacent St. Mary’s Hospital.  The existing medical office & day care layouts were completely gutted, allowing for the new apartment layouts to take advantage of tall ceilings, letting in generous amounts of daylight from the newly refurbished storefront window system.  A new opening within an existing load bearing partition was created to allow for a new corridor to facilitate access to the new apartments on the first floor.  All construction was carefully coordinated to allow for the least amount of disruption for the residents living on the levels above.
